Meghan Markle’s Hen Party
After months of speculation, royal-to-be Meghan Markle has revealed her hen party is finally organised – although she’s remaining tight-lipped about what exactly she’ll be doing on her final night of freedom.
The 36-year-old Los Angeles-born humanitarian and former actress is due to marry her prince on 19th May. At St George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle, the lovebirds will tie the knot at noon – the prince was also christened here at three months old.
Kensington Palace confirmed the date of the wedding last December, following the couple’s engagement in November, but there had been no word on how Meghan planned to celebrate her hen night. Given the fact she is to marry into royalty, it’s not expected to be a raucous affair.
During a visit to Edinburgh on 13th February – part of the couple’s first official visit to Scotland – Meghan, former star of US legal drama Suits, told well-wishers that she was all ready for her hen party. According to media reports, she confirmed plans were now in place for the eagerly-awaited event.
Chatting to fans who lined the city’s streets to catch a glimpse of the royal couple, Meghan said her hen party was “sorted out” and that it would be “fun”. However, she wasn’t giving anything else away and the exact details of the event remain under wraps.
Royal-watchers are speculating that the hen party will be held in Wales, after royal fan Anne Daley reportedly spoke to the bride-to-be in January. Media reports claimed Anne had asked Meghan what she thought about a hen party around Cardiff, the Welsh capital. Meghan had apparently replied she would “love to” celebrate her big night there.
However, royal sources have said a definite location is yet to be chosen, although there’s a rumour Meghan and the girls will be flying out to a private villa in the south of France, where they can relax out of the media spotlight.
Rumours are also circulating that Meghan has previously visited Newcastle and has a “soft spot” for the city. Grey’s Club in Newcastle has officially invited Prince Harry to hold his stag night there, although the offer has yet to be taken up.
Another possible destination is Dublin, as royal-watchers claim Meghan has said she would enjoy Breakfast at Tiffany’s style afternoon tea at the Morgan Bar and loves the “quaint” cobbled streets. Another suggestion has been Barcelona, with rumours the girls will hire a private catamaran, or take a champagne sunset cruise.
There has been as much media frenzy about the prince’s stag night as there has about Meghan’s hen party. Around 30,000 people have joined a fun Facebook group set up to celebrate his stag do, which the group admin claims is taking place at Buckingham Palace between May 10th and May 12th!
Despite the Facebook event being tongue-in-cheek, this hasn’t stopped thousands of well-wishers from ticking the box to say they are attending. Meanwhile, the bookies are slashing the odds on a suggestion he will be off to Las Vegas with the boys, rather than spending his stag night in the UK.
Speculation aside, royal-watchers have a clearer idea of who exactly will attend Meghan’s hen party. Top of the list is said to be stylist Jessica Mulroney, one of her closest friends. They holiday together on a regular basis and are said to share a mutual love of yoga.
Another attendee will be one of Harry’s oldest friends, Violet von Westenholz, who according to recent media reports, introduced the couple.
However, earlier reports in 2017 claimed the couple met in London in June 2016, through mutual friend Misha Nonoo – a fashion designer who was married to the prince’s old school friend, Alexander Gilkes. So, it’s likely that Misha will be on the hen party guest list as well.
Meghan’s Suits co-star Abigail Spencer is also said to have received an invite, as has tennis icon Serena Williams, who is a close friend of the bride-to-be. Other guests are said to include Indian film producer, actress and singer Priyanka Chopra, who, like Meghan, is also a philanthropist. Priyanka may also be a bridesmaid.
Made in Chelsea star Millie Macintosh has also been mentioned as a hen party guest and is said to have come up with ideas for the destination and hen party activities. Meghan’s mum, Doria Radlan, is believed to be going on the hen weekend.
As for the groom’s family… well, Harry’s nieces Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie of York have reportedly been invited, as has his sister-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, who is currently pregnant with her third baby.
Speculation is also rife about what Meghan and her pals will do on their hen weekend. The bride-to-be is said to enjoy old-fashioned party games, such as pin the tail on the donkey. However, rumours that she will be playing ‘pin the junk on the hunk’ are probably incorrect… what would the Queen say?
