Hen Party Cocktail Class Bath
Bath’s hen houses are mostly Georgian: tall, handsome, listed, and laid out for a household with servants. The kitchen is often in the basement, the dining room a floor or two above, and the front door opens straight onto the pavement. It makes a lovely setting for a cocktail class, as long as somebody has thought about the stairs.
The running order
- Set-up comes first. The mixologist is with you 20 to 30 minutes ahead of the start time to change in private and lay out the bar.
- Everybody makes cocktail number one, with the mixologist guiding each step.
- Cocktails two and three follow, and there are games to stop anyone taking it too seriously.
- The last part is a contest. You’re divided into teams to see which can produce the best cocktail in the room.
- At the two-hour mark it’s done. The alcohol, mixers, glasses, equipment, fruit, decorations and ice are all supplied.
The cost is from £35 each. We need a minimum of 10 on the booking, so smaller groups pay for 10 and divide up the extra drinks.
Georgian townhouses: stairs, basements and permit parking
The grand terraces around the Circus and Great Pulteney Street and up the slopes of Lansdown are where the large lets are. Lifts are rare. A first-floor drawing room can mean two flights from the street, and a basement kitchen means going down a narrow stair. Decide which room you want to use and tell us how many flights are involved.
Parking is by residents’ permit across the central zones. Ask your host about a visitor permit, or point us to the nearest place to pull in and unload. Listed or not, the owner must agree to the class.
Out to Wiltshire and the Avon valley
Plenty of Bath hen groups stay outside the city, and the class goes to them. Bathampton, Batheaston, Saltford, Keynsham, Box, Corsham, Bradford-on-Avon, Trowbridge and Radstock are all fine.
Wells, Cheddar and Cirencester are fine as well. The price for any of them comes from the instant quote, which needs the postcode, date and group size.
Spa in the morning, cocktails at five
A spa session is on most Bath itineraries, so leave a decent gap between that and the class. From late November the Christmas market fills the streets round the Abbey, and start times need more slack then.
For afterwards, George Street, Walcot Street and Kingsmead Square are all a short walk from the Abbey. To choose your own drinks, get the request in at least 14 days early. Without one you’ll be making Mojitos and Pina Coladas. Pornstar and Espresso Martinis carry a £2.50 supplement on each cocktail; for Long Island Iced Tea it’s £5.
